What is history? An echo of the past in the future

About This Quote

The saying, "History is written by the victors," was coined by Edmund Burke in his book, Reflections on the Revolution in France. It states that history is written by those who have won wars. People who have never experienced war are not likely to have any opinions on the things that happened during that war. The victors are the only ones that can write their version of history.

Therefore, it is not surprising that most history books are written by people who have been victorious in battle. This means that most of what we have learned about our past has been written by those who were victorious and therefore, we believe it to be true.
